Nathan Haines
1994 was an exciting time in Auckland. A pre-digital world, full of incredibly talented people working extremely hard to be noticed.
Pre 94, I have distinctive memories of listening to Nathan deep into the night at Cause Celebre and watching him de camp, sell his Citroen and piss off to London where he deservedly gained international acclaim. It's hard to believe that was a quarter of a century ago.
The album was released by Verve Records in the UK in 1995 and remains New Zealand’s biggest-selling jazz album. The rest, as they say, is history and contrary to the words of another great New Zealand Musician History does repeat itself with the re-release of this fantastic piece of vinyl and a tour.
