May Art Fair:
If you’re looking for something to add to your diary in May, there’s a new event set to enrich Auckland’s art calendar: the May Art Fair. Running from 2–4 May at 3 East Street, just off Karangahape Road, this boutique, gallery-led fair offers a more intimate experience for art enthusiasts—with a focus on smaller galleries that may not have the resources or desire to exhibit at the more established Auckland Art Fair, which runs concurrently.
Initiated by Andrew Thomas of Michael Lett and Sarah Hopkinson of Coastal Signs, the May Art Fair is designed to complement the larger Aotearoa Art Fair by fostering a collegial spirit among galleries and providing a streamlined, independent platform for artists and collectors.
Participating galleries include Season, Michael Lett, Phillida Reid, Fine Arts Sydney, Disneyland Paris & Bills PC, Envy, Neon Parc, Robert Heald, and Coastal Signs.
The fair runs from Friday 2 May, with an invitation-only preview from 12pm to 8pm. Saturday 3 May is open to the public from 10am to 6pm, with Sunday 4 May available by appointment.
