Asahi Deck Shoe
Asahi have been making shoes in Kurume, Japan, since 1892. Their Deck Shoe is a classic example of the region’s precision and craft, rooted in the same tradition that has made Kurume a centre for canvas and vulcanised footwear.
The design draws on the plimsoll and naval deck shoes of the mid-twentieth century but pares them back to their essentials. Made from heavy-duty Japanese canvas with a vulcanised rubber sole, it combines durability with a clean, minimal profile. Every detail is considered — tonal eyelets, reinforced toe, and a sole engineered for grip on wet or dry surfaces.
The Deck Shoe is an easy alternative to trainers, working as well with chinos as with shorts. In white it feels sharp and architectural; in darker shades it leans more utilitarian. However you wear it, the appeal lies in its simplicity and precision.
Asahi continues to make the Deck Shoe in the same quiet, careful way they always have. It is a style that doesn’t chase trends, but endures
