Wendell Stanley - The Beast from the East
by Murray Crane
Born in 2000, hailing originally from the heart of Zimbabwe, Wendell Stanley's life took a transformative turn when, at the age of seven, he embarked on a life-changing journey to New Zealand with his family. Among these opportunities, sport played a pivotal role, setting him on a path towards becoming a formidable force in the world of boxing.
Wendell's sporting journey began with a venture into Taekwondo, a discipline that instilled in him a deep-rooted desire to compete in a more intense and combative arena. This yearning for fuller combat experiences led him to the world of boxing, and in 2015, he took his first steps into the boxing ring at the Revills Boxing Gym in Pakuranga, Auckland.
Boxing swiftly became Wendell's focus and passion, for it encompassed the elements he had been seeking: discipline, routine, structure, technical prowess, and a relentless commitment to physical fitness.
Over the years, his dedication and hard work has borne fruit with an impressive 54 bouts, securing victory in 39 of them and donning the New Zealand Boxing Team jersey at the Commonwealth Games.
