Thomas Mason Shirting
The history of Thomas Mason shirting is really a walk through the history of Menswear. From Jermyn Street, Piccadilly and Carnaby Streets to the North Sea where their product developments saved countless airmen’s lives during World War 2.
A cornerstone of all that is great about British elegance and style Thomas Mason have been supplying shirt makers and tailors the world over for over 200 years.
Founded in 1796 at the height of the Industrial Revolution Masons mechanized approach to weaving was in itself “revolutionary". When Mason founded one of the first cotton fabric factories in Leeds cotton had only just begun being imported into Great Britain.
Like so many of the great British brands Thomas Mason was sold to overseas investors in the 1990’s. In this case the Italian Albini family, themselves shirting manufacturers, who saw the true potential of the brands rich archive, which included over 700 volumes of fabric designs and 2 centuries of tradition.
That archive has now been re issued and recreated into new books including their bespoke collection a cut length service.
Crane Brothers now carry the extensive Thomas Mason collections for their Made to Measure shirt offer as well as Ready to Wear.
We are proud to have been hand picked by Albini to represent this great brand exclusively in New Zealand.
