Melbourne Club
The Melbourne Club is a reciprocal club to my New Zealand Club and a great place to stay whilst in Melbourne.
One of Australias oldest mens clubs it was established in 1838 and has been situated at 36 Collins Street ever since.
Private clubs enjoy an automatic exemption from anti-discrimination laws and are free to restrict membership on attributes including gender. This one is no different.
The Melbourne club building is of architectural significance as a rare and beautiful intact example of a nineteenth century purpose-built clubhouse in the Victorian Renaissance style.
It has a private garden and Billiards Room with two full size tables: pretty true although the older one leans a bit to the left ( a bit like some of it's members).
