Barrel Aged Negroni by Hastings Distillers
by Murray Crane
Our good friends at Hastings Distillers have released a new Barrel Aged Negroni.
The blend comprises their very own signature mix of organic Gin, L’Opera bitter orange, and Rubis Vermouth; all these amazing elements are good on their own, as some of you will recall from recent Crane Brothers events. Now they’ve outdone themselves by resting them for 18 months in a 300L bespoke French oak barrel. The oak ageing ”harnesses toffee, mocha and sweet char notes and provides a softened mouthfeel”.
The result is a deep, dark and smoky blend: “Fresh citrus and orange transform into marmalade and candied peel notes. Background notes of juniper contribute dried herb and savoury flavours, while the vermouth provides depth, offering ripe red berry fruit and dark chocolate.
If your drinking taste is one of quality rather than quantity then this is a truly sophisticated aperitif made here in New Zealand, it's Biogro certified, non-filtered and contains no animal products.
Add to that stunning packaging and labelling and this is a beautiful artisan product. With Fathers Day just around the corner, we reckon this is a great gift and if you're in the Hastings district, make sure you visit them for one of their bespoke experiences.
Pre-orders are now available via the Hastings Distillers website.
