Field Notes: Casual Jacketing
Casual jackets can prove a difficult thing to get right; it's sometimes hard to strike a good balance. This is something we've worked hard to perfect, and for our latest collection, we have reinstated a winter staple, our Field Flannel Jacket, alongside a new development, the Covert Jacket.
The Field Jacket has its origins in military history, with early jackets being issued to soldiers serving in Europe during the World Wars. These jackets were typically made from a heavy cotton twill material and designed to be both functional and durable, with features that could withstand the rigours of battle and provide protection from the elements.
The Covert Jacket is our "take" on this menswear classic. We’ve reinterpreted it and used a durable and textured corduroy fabric. The jacket features a button-up front, a traditional collar, a range of pockets, and a drawstring waist. These practical and convenient features make it ideal for travel or a medium-to-hard night out, as it pairs well with almost anything. Add a button-down shirt, polo shirt, or a light piece of knitwear underneath with five pocket pants or tailored trousers. Depending on the final look you’re going for, loafers, chelsea boots, or chukka boots will all work well.
This autumn also sees the return of the Field Jacket, which in many ways was the blueprint for the Covert Jacket with many of the same features. It is the latest derivation in a long line of developments and tweaks. The soft flannel works well as a medium-weight layer and can easily be styled with a plain t-shirt, smart knitwear, and classic shirting. It's a simple muted palette, meaning there is very little that it won't work with.
Both jackets are now available online, in-store, and made-to-measure.
