Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman is one of the foremost art photographers of her generation. Her work has been exhibited all over the world and her self-portraits have inspired numerous photographers and changed the landscape of art photography. Her work, "Untitled 153” from 1985 reached a sale price of 2.7 million at a Christie’s auction in 2010.
If you are living in Wellington or visiting the capital city, the Cindy Sherman exhibition at City Gallery Wellington is a must see. City Gallery Wellington Director Elizabeth Caldwell says, “Cindy Sherman has built an international reputation for an extraordinary body of work. She is one of the most significant and written about artists working today. We are thrilled to be the sole gallery presenting this exhibition in New Zealand.” The exhibition is on until the 19th of March 2017.
For art lovers based in Auckland Gus Fisher Gallery is giving a talk on Sherman’s work and the use of fashion and identity politics in her images. The talk is a perfect pre-Christmas culture fix and is followed by cocktails in the gallery.
