It almost seems impossible for me to fathom that Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' is 50 years old this week. It’s like that weird nephew you recall being born inviting you to their wedding.
Released as the final track on their fourth untitled album (which sold a mere 37 million copies) it helped cement them as probably the greatest band of the Seventies - and let's be honest there was some stiff competition.
It’s no wonder that Rolling Stone magazine called them the heaviest band of all time.
'Stairway to Heaven' also - incredibly - was never released as a single and thus never made it onto the charts, despite having more airplay than most songs in history.
