Internet Cable
It is good to see the Government getting behind the Hawaiki cable that would link New Zealand, Australia and the United States and effectively hardwiring us with the rest of the world.
Crown-owned company Reannz has signed a deal to buy $65 million of capacity on the proposed cable.
Lets hope they keep looking at new and innovative ways for us, as a nation, to become less dependent on the rest of the world and diversify.
With a wealth of hydropower, space and a reputation as a safe and easy place to do business my idea would be to invest in the building of Server Clusters in the South Island. The cable, when built, would enable data storage to become a viable export.
