I established Crane Brothers in 1999. It was always a dream of mine to have a shop in central Auckland, New Zealand, where my family history dates back to the 19th Century. I grew up on the South Island in a small town—the outsider with a mohawk and black clothing in a neighbourhood of farm kids. I wore suits to school and constantly bugged my mother to cut my trousers and sew things onto my clothing.
