The Crane Foundation
To mark our 25th anniversary, we established the Crane Foundation—a commitment to supporting contemporary art, design, and culture in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We see the benefit of good design every day in our work. Reflecting on our own journey, we realise how challenging it is to succeed in this space. Through the Crane Foundation, we're putting resources behind the creative spirit that has always defined both New Zealand and Crane Brothers. By collaborating with The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi and Objectspace, we aim to support those navigating the same challenges—championing excellence and innovation in design for the next generation.
At the core of this initiative is a strategic partnership with The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi and the establishment of a new Laureate Award for Design. This prestigious award recognises exceptional achievements in design across a range of disciplines, including industrial and product design, architecture, interior design, and sustainable innovation.
The award offers a prize of $50,000 and will be presented every two years to a design artist whose work challenges conventions, inspires innovation, and enriches New Zealand's creative landscape.
