White trousers have become something of a constant for me. What may feel like a seasonal experiment for some men has, over time, become a dependable part of how I dress. My own wardrobe includes several pairs, among them three pairs of white jeans. They appear regularly in my personal rotation and, equally, they appear in every collection we produce. At a certain point they stop feeling unusual and simply become another neutral. In the same way navy or brown anchors a wardrobe, white begins to do the same.
What draws me to them is their clarity. White has a way of sharpening everything around it. Colours feel richer, textures become more pronounced and the overall silhouette feels cleaner. Even the simplest combination takes on a certain precision. For me, the pairing that captures this best is a crisp white jean or trouser worn with a brown suede shoe. The contrast between the brightness of the cloth and the softness of suede creates a balance that is difficult to equal. It is one of the simplest combinations in menswear, yet for me it remains almost unparalleled.
White trousers also bring a certain discipline. They are not entirely forgiving garments. They require a little attention and awareness, but that is part of their appeal. When worn well they introduce light and contrast into a wardrobe that is often built around darker colours. They also move easily across seasons. In summer they feel effortless with linen and lighter shirting. In cooler months they hold their own against flannel jackets, knitwear and darker tailoring. In fact, against deeper winter tones they can look even better.
When I think about this approach to dressing I am often reminded of Alessandro Squarzi of Fortela, whose wardrobe has long revolved around a small group of dependable pieces. White jeans appear frequently in his own rotation, worn with simple layers and suede shoes, forming part of a personal uniform built around quality essentials rather than trends. It is a philosophy that resonates strongly with me. A well-cut white jean or trouser becomes less of a seasonal statement and more of a reliable foundation, something that works year after year with the pieces you already own.
New season Fortela arrives in store next week, and as always the collection reflects that same sense of ease and permanence.
