The Measure of a Shirt

Chanel’s most recent womenswear collection highlighted an unexpected focus on men’s shirting - a reminder of how enduringly relevant a simple shirt can be. For us, it has always been the foundation of the wardrobe, the starting point for everything else.
At Crane Brothers, a shirt is defined by its construction. The hours spent cutting, sewing, pressing, and finishing are what distinguish a good shirt from a great one. Stitches per inch, button shank height, seam allowance — these small details are where quality is found. Precision and patience matter as much as design.
Although never designed as womenswear, our shirts are regularly bought and worn by women. A good garment transcends gender - or its intended wearer. It’s defined by how it’s made, not who it’s made for.
Made in Italy represents the pinnacle of shirt making - a tradition grounded in accuracy, patience, and quiet pride. A well-made shirt has an ease that belies its structure: simple, versatile, and enduring.
Proof that the most refined things are often the most understated.
