There are few things more rewarding than seeing people you’ve employed go on to back themselves. After 27 years the list is long and varied.
Cam is one of those. As a (very) young man he spent time with us at Crane Brothers learning the rhythms of retail, the importance of showing up consistently, and the value of doing simple things properly. More importantly, he brought curiosity, energy and care. Those things compound.
Now, together with his brother, he’s opened Oat Bros. A proper bricks-and-mortar commitment. Early mornings, real risk, and a clear point of view. That’s not easy, and it deserves respect.
If there’s one lesson I’ve learned over the years, it’s that good people don’t just pass through your business, they carry pieces of it forward. Standards, habits, ways of thinking. You don’t always see it at the time, but it shows up later.
It’s genuinely good to see Crane Brothers alumni doing well, backing themselves, and building something of their own.
If you’re in the area, support them. And Cam, well done.
