Introducing Informale

Informale is a Melbourne label, founded by Steve and Jordana Calder. Steve trained at Gucci and Zegna before opening Calder Sartoria in 2016, the first house to bring proper Neapolitan tailoring to Australia. Informale grew out of that atelier. It takes the same soft construction and turns it toward a more relaxed wardrobe, built on military archives, vintage workwear and the tailoring instincts Steve spent two decades refining. Nothing about it is accidental.

Every garment is made in small batches in Melbourne, by local artisans paid properly for their skill. The fabrics come from long standing mills in England and Japan. There is no chasing of seasons here. Informale returns to the same set of archive pieces year on year and refines them: fatigues, chore jackets, linen work shirts, drawstring trousers. Garments built to be worn hard, to soften, to patina, to outlast the wardrobe around them.

It is a philosophy I recognise in my own approach. Buy less. Buy better. Wear it until it tells a story.

We've brought a considered edit of Informale into Crane Brothers as our first Guest Collection, an easy, utility minded counterpoint to our tailoring, for the days that call for something a little less formal.
