The word chukka is from the game of polo. The "chukka" is a period of play within the game.
Chukka boots were first worn by the British armed forces in the Western Desert Campaign of World War 2.
The Desert boot, as it was known traditionally had a crepe rubber sole.

The name ‘Chukka’ is said to be derived from the seven and a half minute Polo playing period called a Chukker or Chukka. The term is itself derived from the Hindi word ‘chukkar’ meaning ‘circle’ or ‘turn’.

Since 1910 the Dainite studded sole has provided comfort and grip in all conditions while not attracting or storing dirt.
This sole is perfect for our wet winter conditions. It is more robust than leather in wet conditions as well as the added benefit of being slip resistant.

We work off a Formal Round Last; Full and half sizes are available, even different sizes for each foot. Shoes last longer given a superior fit.
Welt stitching is a hallmark of exceptional shoe construction. Blake welting is an integral part of the tradition of fine Italian shoe construction.
We can also offer the sturdier Goodyear welting, more commonly seen on English made shoes.
Choose from a wealth of full grain leathers and suede options including Crane Brothers signatures such as the rich patina of Nut Brown and uniquely textured Grain Calf.
Our calf selection features 6 different shades of tan and brown and Suede comes in 2 weights including a lighter Summer Suede.
It is also possible to order a matching belt.
We offer a traditional full-leather soles or the functionality of a weather resistant Dainite rubber sole.
