Otahuna Lodge image

The historic Otahuna Lodge is one of our favourite wedding venues - with stunning 18th century architecture, peerless gardens and stunning views of the Southern Alps, it marries elegance and romance with a deep connection to the natural world.

Originally built in 1895 in the Queen Anne style, the Lodge was originally the home of philanthropist and politician Sir Heaton Rhodes. After his death, and following several different incarnations, the property was acquired by Hall Cannon and Miles Refo in 2006, and the pair have been dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the property ever since.

The 30-acre estate’s extensive gardens were originally laid out under the direction of A.E. Lowe, famous for his role in the creation of London’s Kew Gardens. Today, the gardens boast several hundred different important and exotic trees, as well as rhododendron woodlands, shade glades, a lake and hidden frog pond, a stone fruit and nut orchard and an herb and vegetable garden.

Today it’s one of New Zealand’s finest destination retreats, boasting seven guest suites, beautiful and ornate common areas and a stunning private art collection.
