Fashion is cyclical, we all know that; menswear moves at a slower pace than most but it still changes.

One colour (not actually a colour) that has been out of favour for some time now is Black, but lately, it's been making a welcome comeback.

Many people find it challenging- seeing it as too formal or "funereal" with Navy and Charcoal being more palatable options, so here is a short refresher on how to wear Black and some validation as to why you should.

Black makes everyone look slimmer and slightly more stylish: we will all take what we can get right? It suggests an urbane style favoured by designers, architects, rock stars and rebels.  At the same time, it always feels refined and is a welcome respite from bright patterns or bold colours.

It works well with the cold tones such as brown, charcoal and cream: all colours that have become more in favour over the last few seasons. They feel stylish and refined, but not as showy as bright patterns or bold colours.

The secret is to not overdo it. I am not saying you should rush out and buy a new black suit or blazer but do consider it when you are next looking at accessories or shoes.

Like everything it's about buying well and adding extra dimension to your core wardrobe, breaking habitual patterns and creating new and exciting looks.

Wearing Denim with Tailoring

Denim is an affordable and durable cloth that can work in a myriad of ways. When it is well selected and worn in the right way it adds an extra dimension to any man’s wardrobe.

1917

I have always been a sucker for a World War genre film. I love a man in uniform (for purely sartorial reasons), it could be The Great Escape, Dunkirk or Guns of Navarone. I have seen them all countless times.

Pitti Uomo

Pitti Uomo 97 has just wrapped up in Florence for another season and we had a team there working with our existing network of Artisans and Suppliers.

Here are some of Johns top observations of what he saw over the course of the week and what trends in men's fashion we can look forward to this Winter.
