Oyster Inn image

Oyster Inn is set in the middle of Oneroa village on Waiheke Island; the inn offers luxury accommodation, a seafood restaurant, a private dining room and a cute shop. Oyster Inn has featured in Conde Nast Traveller, Monocle and Harpers Bazaar magazines, it was opened in 2012 by locals Andrew Glenn and Jonathan Rutherfurd Best.

The private function room is ideal as a wedding venue; Oyster Inn would also be great as a romantic weekend get away.

Naturally oysters loom large on the menu. The oysters arrive fresh, six days a week, straight from the Te Matuku oyster beds on the island. Oyster Inn serves oysters in a variety of ways; natural in the half shells, with chardonnay and shallot vinaigrette; as oysters Kilpatrick with bacon; and battered with a wasabi dip. The staff recommend the exclusive Marlborough Oyster Inn sauvignon blanc as a wine match.

The oyster theme continues in the shop where you can buy a range of t shirts featuring oyster related slogans like ‘get shucked’ and ‘bi valve curious’. There has been speculation about oyster’s powers as an aphrodisiac; Lord Byron was said to breakfast on fifty raw oysters everyday. Oysters contain two forms of amino acids, D- aspartic and N-methyl-D-aspartate which produce testosterone in men and progesterone in women, both of which increase the hormones associated with sexual activity.
