Wool
It was good to see a positive agricultural business story in this mornings New Zealand Herald, on something other than dairy, with wool prices hitting a three year high.
As someone who grew up around sheep, and who now sells a lot of cloth supplied by weavers from all over the world on a daily basis, it is great to see a resurgence in sales and demand, even if it does mean higher prices.
After travelling much of the country in the last month I sense a lot of unease amongst many farmers over our dependance on dairy as a nation.
The drought conditions don't help and after recent years of better rainfall it's easy to forget that much of the country just isn't suitable for cows, especially without irrigation.
The Merino however is an excellent forager and very adaptable.
Perfect for our harsh climate.
